I expect that if you are near my age and lived in the Vietnam era and were fortunate enough to have hypertension, college and a good draft number to keep you safe during those tragic years while you protested our government's decision to sacrifice 50,000 of our contemporaries, you are still a bit conflicted when you see the American Flag being flown on houses, golf carts, cars, etc.
I am, and yet I count as my number one blessing being born in the USA. I know we have such an easier life due to being born here. I know we have more opportunity, a better education, more freedom, more safety than anywhere in the world.
As a symbol of our country, I am proud to fly the Flag. As a symbol of our willingness to sacrifice our young while we interfere in the internal conflicts in other countries, I am sad and ashamed.

Dermatology
when you are 20, you never thought about the skin, or when you were 30, or probably 40...well all those miles I ran in my 30's and 40's in the sun without any sunscreen...guess what???
they now require at least annual visits to a dermatologist to check on all the spots and dots.
As my dermatologists said this evening...one less bump in the world before I left and the receptionist charged me $90 for my 20% copay...hmmm...
I waited for her for an hour to get to me, then she spent 10 minutes, left came back for 5 minutes, sliced off a non cancerous "bump" after her assistant numbed it and cut off a piece of the basil cell carcinoma under my beard for biopsy.
$450 worth of service? Why are MDs the only people we are willing to wait an hour after our scheduled time to see?
Create Jobs? How about we create more MDs!!!!!!

SSI Application
Since I'm the first BB I'll tell you about the application process for Social Security. I started the application today. The website says it will take 15 minutes.
I am a reasonable intelligent person, still in total control of my faculties and I know I have spent at least 30 minutes and I'm still not through.
First you are directed to get an estimate of what you will be paid...and then a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, scenario based on when you begin collecting and what you earn between last year and the hypothetical dates you begin receiving benefits....they just don't want you to fail to consider all the options.
For me, I calculated that taking Social Security 15 months early will take me eleven years of receiving benefits at the higher rate to make up what I will receive in those 15 months. Of course there is no calculation like that on the web site.
However, you do need to know whether you were married for ten years to a person you are now divorced from and their social security number, their date of birth, the date you were married and the date you were divorced.....ok you can get by without these dates, but they are all on the questionnaire.
Eventually I tired...I can always apply tomorrow...as long as I don't lose the application number and have to start all over..
and speaking of being tired....

One for the Old Guys
What a special day for David Toms...ok he's not a baby boomer, but he is older than most of the recent winners on the PGA and it has been six years since he had won.
And last week he missed a "gimme" putt to lose in a playoff...
And somehow he came back at Colonial where he has finished 4th, 3rd, and 2nd and won in remarkable fashion starting with a pair of 62's, followed by a 74..and then on a hot Sunday afternoon, David Toms is crying on the 18th green after he hugs his son, daughter, and wife who were crying the prior week.
A good win for the old guys!!!!!

SSI
Ok we all know this one. Social Security Income...well some of us are trying to decide when to start taking out what we have paid in over the years...yeah right...I mean taking out while there are still workers paying into Social Security.
One of the issues is taxation.
Did you know that if you are married and your adjusted gross income is over $32,000 you have to pay income tax on up to 50% of your SSI payments.
More in subsequent posts..
btw the sunglass cheaters...well lets just say the score today was 15 strokes higher.

SEO
Ok.... so I've been a CEO, COO and a CFO...but what is a SEO????
Surprise...it is not a position, but rather Search Engine Optimization.... now if we only knew what that meant... I think it has something to do with Google and Bing and things like that..
btw the Sun glass Cheaters...the other great advantage is that I can keep score and actually read where I have written 5/4, or 4/2 on the scorecard.

The First Post
Ok, so I am the first baby boomer....and I am trying to start a dialogue about what that means for me and to gather insights into what it means for others who will follow.
We will spend some time exploring what we have to do to re-invent ourselves as we age....
sometime exploring information that is becoming pertinent as we age.....
and other fun stuff.
My discovery for today is Sunglass Readers...or Cheaters...GREAT for GOLFERS...76 today with the Sun Cheaters and deal at Costco 2 pair for $20.
Heard at a social media seminar yesterday:
Be brief, be bright, be GONE......
